Toothache
Toothache happens when the nerve root of a tooth is irritated. Tooth infection, decay, damage, and the loss of a tooth are some of the most common reasons of tooth pain. Loss of a tooth either by accident or after having it removed by a dentist can often cause dental pain. Tooth pain not only starts from the tooth itself, it can also be caused by problems in other areas like the ear or nose, which then spreads to the jaw making it seem like toothache. Toothache is usually easy to determine but you should check whether it really is toothache or pain from another area that radiated to the jaw. Some symptoms would be severe pain to pressure, or to hot or cold beverages. The pain from the jaw may last longer than a few seconds even after the cause is removed. When the area of inflammation spreads, the pain becomes more severe and may radiate to the other areas like the cheek, ear, or jaw.
The symptoms may sometimes be associated with dental decay or gum disease so it’s a good idea to have it checked immediately. There are various ways to pinpoint the exact source of pain. One is a reddish area that may appear around the gum line or an area of decay. Another is by tapping the tooth. If the pain intensifies while tapping, then it’s highly possible that it’s the infected one. Although you can prevent the majority of dental problems by regularly brushing your teeth and flossing, it's still best to visit a Provo family dentist at least twice a year. A good family dentist Provo has would be Packer Dental. |
